Dear Jack,
I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy during these difficult times. I'll be sending weekly Bulletins so that you have all the latest updates you need.
Hurricane Isaias
Starting Monday, August 3rd, Governor Northam is declaring a state of emergency in Virginia in anticipation of Hurricane Isaias, which is expected to make its way up the East Coast this week. While the storm track is not clear yet, we can expect to see heavy rain and strong winds in Virginia, particularly near the coast. You can learn more about how to prepare for Isaias here.
Rebuild VA
Last week, the Governor announced the launch of Rebuild VA Economic Recovery Fund, a $70 million grant program for small businesses in Virginia. Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to over 7,000 small businesses. Businesses that employ 25 employees or fewer, including sole proprietorships, will be eligible to apply. Learn more and apply here.
Hampton Roads
Governor Northam gave a press conference on Tuesday regarding the state of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth. While most regions, including Northern Virginia, are in good shape, Hampton Roads and the Peninsula are seeing a sharp spike in cases. In response, the Governor has issued an executive order that bans on-premises alcohol sales after 10pm in the region, as well as limiting gatherings to 50 or fewer. You can read more about the executive order here.
