It's no exaggeration -- we are on the brink of a nationwide childcare crisis.

The pandemic already forced nearly half of the country's childcare centers to close this spring, and experts believe that without public funding, we will permanently lose 50% of the nation's childcare capacity.

This is a disaster. With many schools prioritizing health and going virtual in the fall, we cannot ask parents to choose between working their jobs and caring for their children. That's why I co-sponsored the Child Care Is Essential Act.

Rep. Stevens: Childcare rescue package is critical for the economy

This bill would provide emergency funding to empower childcare centers to reopen safely and keep childcare workers on payroll. It just passed the House -- now we need to show massive public support to give it a chance of passing the Senate. Will you sign on to support our childcare centers and the hard-working families they serve?

Working parents have been wondering for months how they're supposed to provide full-time childcare, facilitate online education, and work to provide for their families -- and I'm right there with them.

This is yet another example of how working families are left out of policymaking and left behind economically. The Senators who will oppose this bill are far removed from the pressing concerns of these vulnerable families -- that's why we need to elevate this issue and demand the Senate pass this bill.
