Dear Friend -
Help us
protect our elders and vets who live in mobile homes from unscrupulous
investors and rent-gougers.
Please urge our CA Senate Judiciary
committee to support AB 2895.
The introduction of this bill came about after Rancho La
Paz mobile home residents in Orange County learned that a developer,
John Saunders, had bought their park (half in Fullerton and half in
Anaheim), and decided to raise their lot
rentals up to 65%!
For a community of retired, and in many cases disabled, residents
living on fixed incomes, the news was tragic, yet somehow completely
legal in California. Unable to afford these outrageous rent
hikes, many of these residents will ultimately be
pushed out of the homes that they planned to live out the remainder of
their lives in!
Residents first approached their cities to step in. Anaheim City
Council voted to do NOTHING, meanwhile Fullerton worked on an
inadequate payment plan that will simply delay for a couple years the
eventual eviction of most current residents. After months and months
with no support from their cities, residents realized the only way to
prevent this from happening was via state legislation.
Rancho La Paz resident (and retired Teamster) Lupe Ramirez and
their newly formed Mobile Home-Owners Association worked directly with
Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva to write this statewide bill in
order to stop this cruel, widespread practice.
Please watch this powerful press conference with Rancho
La Paz residents and Assemblymember Quirk-Silva to hear their
testmonies: https://youtu.be/KgFENJb77eU
Where is the bill now?
AB 2895 made it out of the Assembly, and is now before the Senate
Judiciary Committee, and there is substantial opposition from real
estate speculators and the mobile home industry.

Simply call and leave a message with your Senator's staffer:
Hi, my name's _____, and I live in
your district in ______.
I am calling to urge the Senator
and the Judiciary Committee to please vote YES on AB 2895
(Quirk-Silva), a bill that will protect elders and vets from rent
gouging and eviction from their mobile-homes.
We can't continue to allow
unscrupulous investors to push elders and vets into homelessness like
the ones in Rancho La Paz mobile home park in Orange County who saw
their rents increased up to 65% last year. Rent gouging like this is
morally reprehensible, and should not be legal in our state.
Can we count on the Senator to
support AB 2895?
Please let me know once you've called or
submitted a letter: [email protected].

God bless you all for your
