In The News |
Dear friend, Hope you are well during these times! I wanted to share some recent news stories wth you: “Our country needs each of us to band together – and the best way to unite and revitalize America, both economically and socially, is by doing so for a cause greater than ourselves: each other.” - (Time, 2020) Time Magazine published an op-ed I wrote along with Reps. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-20), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-06), and Michael Waltz (R-FL-06) discussing the need for unity in face of a global pandemic. Rep. Panetta and I serve as chairs of the For Country Caucus in the House, and Houlahan and Walz serves as vice chairs. This need for unity is why I support the Inspire to Serve Act which would expand service opportunities in programs like AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, as well as engage thousands of young people. I also support The Cultivating Opportunity and Response to the Pandemic Act (CORPS), “which we also believe has the power to help our nation rebuild and recover stronger in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.” The full article is here and contains helpful links detailing these acts. I was honored to join Hudson Institute’s Senior Fellow Bryan Clark to discuss the National Defense Authorization Act for 2021. Specifically, how it will affect the U.S. when it comes to troop presence and our interests in the Indo-Pacific. I also discussed my top priorities for our nation’s military. I encourage you to watch the interview with The Hudson Institute. Finally, with the economic impact the coronavirus has had. it is more important than ever to create jobs and identify opportunity zones. I took part in the Ralston Economic Opportunity Zones press conference (KETV Story). I See It Ventures is the development company working with the city to develop the old granary building and create new jobs and housing. Ralston Mayor Don Groesser says this could lead to $250 million in investments and the developers for the Millworks project in North Omaha says it could to $300 million in investments, leading to hundreds of jobs.
