Education Secretary Betsy DeVos falsely claimed that children are “stoppers” of COVID-19.
She threatened to defund schools if they didn’t fully reopen for indoor classes 5 days a week, 7 hours a day.
When schools reopen, they need to do it when it’s safe, not because Betsy DeVos says so. But DeVos is gambling with the lives of our children, teachers, and school staff, declaring that CDC guidelines are “flexible”.
It’s time for her to go.
Even before DeVos threatened to pour gasoline on the COVID-19 epidemic, she was attacking our public education system.
From gutting Title IX protections for sexual assault providers, to illegally collecting student loan payments from victims of for-profit college fraud, DeVos’s tenure as Secretary of Education has been a disaster.
We need a Secretary of Education that puts our safety first.
