LULAC Responds To Lowe’s Executive Vice President’s Racist Comments

Washington, DC – Yesterday, Joe McFarland, Executive Vice President of Lowe’s
apologized for a racist comment in which he referred to a power drill as the
perfect tool for “Hispanic pros with smaller hands.” Sindy Benavides, LULAC Chief
Executive Officer, issued the following statement in response to McFarland’s
comment:

“Lowe’s Executive Vice President Joe McFarland’s comment about Hispanic customers
was unacceptable and insulting to this country’s 58 million Latinos. As an
executive leader of a retail company he should be ashamed of how he represented
himself and the business he helps lead. We are paying close attention to the
comments made about our communities and we will not be silent in the face of
disparaging remarks and blatant racism aimed at Hispanics.”
