Jack,
I'm a chef. I've spent my career working with Wisconsin farmers — sourcing
ingredients, building relationships, learning what it takes to put food on
people's tables.
So when I read that farm bankruptcies in Wisconsin surged 700% last year,
it hit me in the gut.
Sixteen Wisconsin farms filed for bankruptcy in 2025. The year before, it
was two. Nationally, farm bankruptcies are at their highest point since
2020 — up 46% — and the Midwest is getting hit hardest.
Last week, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump's sweeping tariffs were
unconstitutional. But for Wisconsin's farmers, the damage is already done.
Tariffs have slammed our corn and soybean farmers, shutting them out of
export markets overnight. Input costs — fuel, seed, equipment, labor —
keep climbing. Dairy and hog margins are tightening. And the federal
crackdown on immigrant workers is gutting the labor force that keeps our
farms running. Immigrant workers make up 12% of Wisconsin's agricultural
workforce. You can't rip that out and expect things to hold together.
The USDA projects farm debt will hit a record $624.7 billion this year.
Experts are saying 2026 will be worse.
None of this had to happen. These are policy choices. And they can be
undone with better ones.
That's why my platform puts Wisconsin farmers first — not Big Ag
corporations:
I'm calling for a Wisconsin Public Bank that gives small farms access to
affordable loans instead of forcing them to max out credit lines and
retirement savings just to survive another season.
I'll break up the agricultural monopolies that let a handful of
corporations set prices so low that farmers can't cover their costs —
while consumers still pay more at the register.
I'll fight for a Farmland Preservation Trust to protect agricultural land
from speculation and keep it in the hands of the next generation of
farmers.
I'll defend every farm worker's right to fair wages and safe conditions —
including the immigrant workers who keep our dairy industry alive and who
are being terrorized by this administration.
And I'll expand programs like Badger Box so Wisconsin farmers are feeding
Wisconsin families — keeping money and food in our communities.
I grew up in this state. I built my career around the people who grow our
food. I refuse to watch them get squeezed out by corporate monopolies and
reckless federal policy while politicians look the other way.

fight for them, chip in today.
