Thank you, so much, for lending your support to Off the Sidelines. With your help, we’ve endorsed and sent critical resources to nearly 100 women running for Congress: Women like Sara Gideon in Maine, Rep. Lucy McBath in Georgia, and Hiral Tipirneni in Arizona.
Campaigning looks a bit different in the midst of a pandemic—but I have been lucky enough to connect with many of our amazing candidates and their supporters on Zoom over the past few months.
Without fail, at least one person will say: “I’m all-in. But what exactly can I do to help?” My advice is fairly consistent—and I thought I’d share it with you today:
Use your voice. Take the opportunity, in every conversation you have, to talk about the issues and candidates that you care about. Use your experiences to illustrate why you care. I firmly believe that personal stories are far more effective than political talking points or data.
Make a budget, then stick with it. Take a step back and consider how much you’d like to invest in candidates and elections this year—it could be $5, $50, or $500. Think of political giving as an extension of your values. Decide who, or what, you like early, and project those values early. Trust me when I say it makes a huge difference.
Amplify your voice outside of your state. If you’re not based in a swing district or state, there is still so much you can do between now and Election Day. Voice your opinions on social media. Make calls. Send texts. Find a Swing Left [[link removed]] chapter, or get involved with Sister District [[link removed]] —there are countless resources that make digital campaigning a cinch.
It’s easy to feel discouraged sometimes, or just overwhelmed at the challenges we face as a country. I understand. But that is all the more reason to elect change-makers to Washington who have the diversity of experience, the vision and the passion to lead.
We all have our part to play in this. So let’s get to it!
Sending love and gratitude,
Kirsten
