Nuclear weapons have a shameful legacy of racism and colonialism that continues to this day. The continued modernisation and development of nuclear weapons in Britain as part of Keir Starmer’s war drive is coming at the expense of tackling social deprivation and rebuilding our crumbling public services. This in turn is feeding into the growth of the far right who find easy targets to blame for these failings in refugees, immigrants, and minority communities. The far right has also turned their hate towards peace campaigners, such as those protesting against Britain’s support for Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.

In our upcoming webinar, Nuclear weapons, war and racism: why we must unite against the far right, we’ll explore the racist history of nuclear weapons, how militarism is making communities poorer, and how the whipping up of racism and hatred has been used to dehumanise whole populations and create ‘enemies’ to justify wars, like the devastating illegal war and occupation of Iraq.
