Solar power can offer benefits beyond the obvious.

The number of days per year with fire-prone conditions has nearly tripled globally since the 1980s, according to new research ( [link removed] ). Climate change is helping fuel this trend through hotter, drier weather. Fires exacerbate climate change in turn, creating a vicious cycle known as the “climate-fire feedback loop.”

Beef and lamb receive about 580 times more agricultural subsidies in the EU than beans and lentils, says a new report ( [link removed] ). Dairy receives 554 times more; pork 240 times. This is a striking imbalance, given that red meat and dairy have exponentially higher climate costs for the same amount of protein.

Fires and the Climate Feedback Loop ( [link removed] )

Climate change is fueling bigger, more severe wildfires that release stored carbon dioxide into the air as they burn through forests. This exacerbates warming, creating a dangerous “fire-climate feedback loop.”
