Last night, President Trump gave what can only be described as one of the most patriotic State of the Union speeches in recent memory. It also happened to be the longest in history at 1 hour and 47 minutes. Another surprising event from the speech was the press corps’ inability ([link removed]) to stand and be proud for their nation’s hockey team winning the Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics.

The House and Senate are back in session this week - the House only through today, and the Senate for the full week. The House is scheduled to take up a couple of pieces of legislation related to affordability. The Senate is scheduled to consider the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding that, due to obstruction from Senate Democrats, was split off from the last package of appropriations bills they passed. As a result of the shutdown, the Administration has said they have suspended ([link removed]) Global Entry as a consequence of the partial shutdown of DHS.

This week, we sat with the President of the State Freedom Caucus Network ([link removed]) , Andy Roth. If you are unfamiliar with the State Freedom Caucus Network (SFCN), their website describes “The Why” as, “Today, the federal government is larger and has more authority than ever before. The permanent administrative state, filled with unelected bureaucrats, has run roughshod over our state legislatures and consolidated power. The principles enshrined in the 10th Amendment have never been more critical." Their website describes “The How” as, “Building on the success of the House Freedom Caucus, the State Freedom Caucus Network will help establish State Freedom Caucuses and provide the high-level-staff, strategy, and community conservatives need to take ground across the country.”
