Campaign: HUD Mixed-Status Rule
On February 20, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking [[link removed]] to bar mixed-status families from living in HUD-assisted housing. The proposed rule would deny housing assistance to eligible individuals – including U.S. citizens and lawfully present immigrants – if someone in their household does not have an eligible immigration status. It would also force millions of U.S. citizens to go through a flawed system to prove their status.
This proposal is not a surprise. We have been anticipating this and are ready to respond with strength. Together with the National Housing Law Project, PIF is leading the Keep Families Together [[link removed]] campaign to mobilize widespread support for immigrant families and opposition to the proposed rule.

Executive Branch Tracker Updates: FNS Letter to WIC Directors, U.S. Senators Admonish IRS Data Sharing, DHS Refers Registered Voters for Criminal Investigation
The Trump administration’s efforts to restrict eligibility and improperly share data for immigration enforcement purposes continue.
* USDA [[link removed]] ’s Food and Nutrition Service sent a letter [[link removed]] to WIC agencies reminding them of the state option to limit WIC eligibility to U.S. citizens and “qualified immigrants. Only Indiana and Idaho [[link removed]] have chosen to restrict eligibility based on immigration status, and Indiana no longer restricts it.
* Eight U.S. Senators wrote a letter [[link removed]] to the IRS [[link removed]] stating that the IRS may have provided data about the wrong taxpayers, who may have been: injured by ICE, improperly detained, imprisoned, or deported, and asking a series of detailed questions.
* Pro Publica reported that when USCIS’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system flags people on voter lists as noncitizens, they are “referred to DHS for possible criminal investigation” even though the data is unreliable. And the New York Times reported that DHS is launching a new nationwide effort to find and charge criminal voting cases targeted at green card holders, despite the fact that an analysis of immigrant voting commissioned by the Trump administration has found no evidence [[link removed]] of widespread or even significant voter fraud.
