John,
Three years ago today, I became the Leader of the Labour Party, and life changed pretty dramatically.
Overnight, I went from being an opposition MP to preparing for televised debates, and from representing my wonderful electorate of Mount Albert to being privileged enough to represent our whole Party too.
But while things changed for me personally in that time, what didn’t change was Labour’s commitment to building a better, fairer New Zealand. So, that day, as I stood up and held my first press conference as Leader, I wanted to reaffirm to voters that we were ‘positive, organised and ready’ and that we had a vision for New Zealand.
Three years on, and just seven weeks out from this year’s election, I’m proud that we’ve lived up to that.
We brought energy and momentum to the last election campaign, and continued this into Government, where we’ve delivered real progress on some of the biggest issues facing our country. We pulled together through the devastating Christchurch terrorist attacks, the Whakaari White Island eruption, and, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic.
In all of this, we’ve not only reflected the strengths of our great Labour community, but we’ve reflected the qualities that define us all as New Zealanders. In the face of some real highs, and some heartbreaking lows, we have collectively stayed positive, worked together, and tackled the challenges facing New Zealand head on.
And that’s what this campaign is about: continuing our journey forward, together. It’s going to take time to recover from COVID and rebuild our economy, but we have a plan and we’re already rolling it out.
Keeping up the momentum will only be possible though if we are re-elected to form Government on 19 September. To do that, we need to secure enough party votes on election night.
The number of votes we receive will come down to two things: Making sure Labour supporters get out and vote, and convincing people who aren’t sure to choose Labour.
We’ve already got a brilliant volunteer team working on the first part of this - focussed on calling up supporters, knocking on doors and making sure they’re getting out to the ballot box to give their two ticks to Labour.
The next part is a little more challenging. Sometimes undecided voters can be difficult to reach using traditional media like newspapers and TV.
But we do have other ways to get in touch. Online adverts enable us to reach people with our message who, traditionally, have been hard to contact. And newspaper ads and leaflets enable us to reach people who may not be online, and may not watch much TV.
These things, of course, cost money to do at any scale. But that’s what modern election campaigns rely on: using every tool we can to get our message out.
So, with less than 50 days until the election, will you consider donating to help us reach even more people through our paid advertising programmes?
Yes - I'll donate now <[link removed]>No - I won't donate now <[link removed]>I know many of you have given before, and as always, I thank you for your incredible generosity. It’s no exaggeration to say that we wouldn’t have been able to form Government in 2017 if it wasn’t for the contributions of people like you. I hope that after September 19th, we’ll have the privilege of saying the same again.
Thank you again for all of your support over the last few years, it wouldn’t have been the same without you.
Thank you,
Jacinda
P.S. We’re always looking for more volunteers, so if you’re interested, you can sign up here to get more information! <[link removed]>

A short note on donations:
John, recently our focus has been on helping communities through COVID-19. It wasn’t a time for political campaigning, but instead a time for concentrating on the welfare of our communities.
This was absolutely the right decision. But pausing our campaign meant we also put all of our fundraising activity on hold too. So now we’ve restarted our campaign, we’re asking for the help of supporters to help get us back on track.
We recognise that not everyone is in a position to make a financial contribution, and there are many other ways to support our movement. However, if you are able to, please click the button below to make a donation to our campaign fund today.
