Reyes to Request Recount

==========

**Castroville** – Republican congressional candidate Raul Reyes (TX-23) announced today he will seek a recount following the July 14 runoff where he finished second by a very narrow margin.

“We worked too hard, for too long, not to ensure every legal vote was counted properly,” said Reyes. “This is a large district, with 29 separate elections run by 29 distinct counties, many of which use paper ballots where human error often enters into the vote counting process. We want to ensure all ballots were counted properly through an expeditious recount process as allowed under law.”

County-by-county results have been certified and sent to the state party. The official margin is a 45-vote deficit, which included an election night submission error by Winkler County of double-counting the early vote Reyes won by 36 votes.

The Reyes Campaign has until 5:00 pm Monday to submit the petition for recount and pay a deposit to the state party for a recount. The recount has to begin seven days after approval of the recount petition.

“Our campaign was a grassroots movement that took on the political establishment. We received hundreds upon hundreds of individual small donations to meet the needed $35,000 deposit for a recount. I owe it to our many volunteers, and the voters of this district, to ensure the final result represents the will of the Republican Primary electorate,” said Reyes.
