When Gov. Andy Beshear was on “The Daily Show,” he made one thing clear: The Trump administration has it out for every state, including Kentucky.

This isn't a red state vs. blue state issue. It’s about who the president decides to play games with that day. And now, we’re dealing with a president who thinks he gets to play politics with disaster relief, school funding, public safety, and programs families rely on. But Andy is fighting back.

When funding for Kentucky's tornado and flood recovery was held up, Andy took the administration to court to get the money his state needed to rebuild.

When a grant for a flood warning system in Eastern Kentucky was canceled — a system that would literally save lives — he fought back.

When Trump tried to send the National Guard from one state into another without that governor's permission, Andy joined other governors in court, and won.

When AmeriCorps funding that supports schools and communities was cut, Democratic governors and attorneys general sued, and because they stood up, that money is flowing to the states that fought for it.

John, while this administration focuses on scoring political points, Andy is focused on protecting his constituents. He doesn't say something is too hard and gives up, he doesn't cave to bad leadership, and he certainly won't let Kentucky be used as leverage in someone else's political game.

No matter where you live, if a president is willing to withhold disaster relief or cut critical funding to make a point, that affects all of us as Americans. We need more leaders like Andy — leaders who will go the extra mile and refuse to back down when their state is on the line.
