The Trump administration just took another wrecking ball to the Endangered Species Act — and wildlife will pay the price.
This latest attack will make it harder to protect places where imperiled species could live and raise their young.
Now the homes of species like the northern spotted owl could be logged and destroyed, leaving them with no place to survive.

The administration's proposal changes how critical habitat is defined, limiting protections for forests, rivers and other areas where endangered species could recover in the future. You can't save species — and you can't stop the extinction crisis — without protecting the lands and waters where they might live. It's just not possible.
Species with designated critical habitat are twice as likely to recover as those without it.
The administration is dragging its feet on protecting individual species and pushing to dismantle protections for animals like wolves. Now it's taking an ax to the underlying law, passed nearly unanimously by Congress, intended to save all creatures from extinction.
It's despicable.
Every day as many as 22 species go extinct — about one every hour. To fight the extinction crisis, we must protect 30% of wild places by 2030 and 50% by 2050, not tear down the laws that save wildlife and their habitat.
This egregious attack is the administration's latest on the world’s most important law for saving animals and plants from extinction. The Act is the bedrock of the work we do every day to save animals and plants from disappearing forever.
Our activists and lawyers will do whatever it takes to stop this assault on the wild. We can do it, but we can't do it alone.
