Email from Rep. Hudson Meet Richard | How Can I Help You? | Issues | Media Center | Contact me Dear Friend, It has been great to spend time back home in our community this week — welcoming President Trump to Fort Bragg, meeting with veterans and first responders, and continuing our work to strengthen families across North Carolina. Here is what we’ve been working on. Welcoming President Trump to Fort Bragg I was honored to welcome President Trump back to Fort Bragg, the home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces and a pillar of our military community. Before the event, I had the opportunity to speak with the President aboard Air Force One about what more we can deliver for Fort Bragg — from improving military housing and strengthening readiness to modernizing equipment and supporting servicemembers and their families. In his remarks, President Trump gave us a shoutout and joked that I’m always pushing him for more resources — “‘Richard’s always bugging me for more money for Fort Bragg,’” he laughed — before adding, “‘And we’re going to do that, aren’t we?’” In Congress, we are working to secure major investments in housing upgrades, munitions production, and modernization. Fort Bragg must remain the premier installation in the world, and I will keep fighting to ensure it does. Standing with Veterans and First Responders While in the district, I attended a veterans event to honor the men and women who have served our country. Their sacrifice does not end when they take off the uniform and neither should our commitment. We are cutting red tape at the VA, improving access to care, and ensuring veterans receive the benefits they have earned. I also visited the Guilford County 911 Center to thank the professionals who answer the call in moments of crisis. These first responders rely on strong, reliable communications when lives are on the line, and that responsibility connects directly to our work in Congress. Fixing FirstNet and Strengthening Communications As Chairman of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, I led a markup this past week to advance legislation reauthorizing FirstNet, the nationwide public safety communications network built specifically for first responders. Reliable communications are essential during emergencies. But in North Carolina, first responders shared frustrations after FirstNet failed to perform during Hurricane Helene. The reforms we advanced will strengthen oversight, improve reliability, and ensure the FirstNet Authority acts in the best interests of the public safety community. This bill advanced to the full Energy and Commerce Committee with strong support. Our first responders deserve a robust, interoperable network they can count on when disaster strikes. We are also continuing work to expand rural broadband access and ensure America — not China — leads in the technologies that will shape our future. Delivering for Working Families The top issue I hear about at home is affordability. Families want to know: are things actually getting better? Here are the facts. Under President Trump’s leadership, inflation has come down from a 40-year high of 9% to 2.4%. Gas prices are at a four-year low. Mortgage rates have fallen from a 23-year high of 7.8% to their lowest level in three years. House Republicans passed the Working Families Tax Cuts, which include: • A $6,000 deduction for seniors ($12,000 for couples) • A 15% average tax cut for Americans earning $55,000–$80,000 • No tax on tips or overtime — saving working families about $1,500 annually • A permanently expanded Child Tax Credit, now $2,200 and indexed for inflation • Permanent paid leave tax credits • Doubled small business expensing and 100% expensing for new factories built in America Refunds are already running nearly 11% higher so far this year — and this is shaping up to be one of the strongest refund seasons in recent memory. There’s still a lot more work to do, but we are taking the right steps. Final Word And before I close, I want to congratulate Team USA Hockey on an incredible achievement. To the entire USA Hockey team, including Jack Hughes and the outstanding goaltending performance by Connor Hellebuyck, thank you for representing our country with pride, grit, and patriotism. When Americans compete with excellence and carry the flag with honor, it reminds us what this nation is capable of. Whether it is strengthening Fort Bragg, supporting veterans and first responders, improving public safety communications, or fighting for affordability, my mission remains clear: deliver results for North Carolina’s Ninth District.
