There's this old saying in politics that I learned early in my career. It goes like this:

"You either run scared or unopposed."

These are words that every elected official should take to heart. It's an important reminder that you can never get too comfortable as an incumbent. No matter how long you've held your seat, you have to constantly be serving the people you represent and always proving yourself worthy of the people's support.

As I find myself up for re-election, the truth is that I will have a Republican opponent on the ballot this fall. That means that we can't leave anything to chance. I'm not unopposed, so I'm choosing to run scared between now and Election Day.

It's my hope that we can continue scaling up our campaign operation to reach as many voters as possible and ensure that their voices are heard in this historic election year. I'm going to fight as hard as I can to win every single vote -- just like I've done in every race since my first run for Municipal Council in Newark.

All of us need to campaign our hearts out to guarantee a big victory in November. If you're in a position to do so, please consider donating ahead of our crucial end-of-month fundraising deadline at midnight tonight.

As always, I'm so grateful to have you by my side. Thank you for standing with me.
