Dear John,

Historically, women's pain has been diminished or outright dismissed by the medical industry, and this remains true even during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as women come forward to allege that medical professionals are not taking their coronavirus symptoms seriously. On Capitol Hill, Black women are once again breaking barriers as a historic number have filed to run for Congress this year.

After two federal court rulings, parents detained in ICE custody are facing the impossible choice of keeping their children in detention centers where COVID cases continue to rise or releasing them to sponsors, putting them up for adoption, or sending them into the foster care system.

Meanwhile, a federal judge has blocked a Tennessee six-week abortion ban from being enacted, a move that conservative lawmakers hope to use to bring the case to the Supreme Court as a challenge to Roe v. Wade. In a step forward for reproductive choice in the South, a new Planned Parenthood clinic has opened in Birmingham, Alabama, the first to offer abortion care in the Southside neighborhood since 2017.
