The Trump Administration has sunk to yet another low. Their latest ploy? Lifting a long-standing ban on the sale of silencers to overseas buyers. This ban was issued in 2002 and intended to protect American troops abroad from ambushes by preventing U.S.-made silencers from falling into the hands of terrorist groups.

Demand that the next administration pledge to ban silencers sold to foreign buyers.

This brazen move is even more proof that Trump will always put the interest of the gun lobby ahead of the American people.

And it gets even worse. The decision was championed by former gun industry lobbyist Michael B. Williams. Before becoming Trump's deputy assistant and a White House lawyer, Williams worked for the NRA and as a lawyer for the American Suppressor Association, a gun silencer lobby that was founded by his brother. The Trump Administration’s decision to lift the ban will allow for as much as $250 million in additional sales for the industry. The New York Times summed up the case succinctly, "a gun industry lobbyist delivers for his former patrons."

We cannot allow American troops to be put in danger simply to pad the pockets of the gun industry. This decision must be reversed and we must hold our elected officials accountable.
