John, The foundation of our republic is only as strong as the security of our elections. Despite federal law technically prohibiting non-citizens from voting, a lack of enforcement and common-sense verification has left our gates wide open. The SAVE America Act is the solution. This legislation strengthens existing law by requiring proof of citizenship and a valid photo ID to register and vote in federal elections. These are not radical ideas, but instead common-sense reforms that an overwhelming majority of Americans support. If you need an ID to drive, open a bank account, or buy cold medicine, then you should need one to vote.
