Jack,
Last night, Wisconsin took a small but meaningful step forward on
healthcare. I voted alongside my colleagues in the Wisconsin Assembly to
extend postpartum Medicaid from 60 days to a full year. We unanimously
passed Gail's Law to cover breast cancer screenings. Governor Evers will
sign both into law, and it’s a win for working people struggling to afford
care.

These bills had overwhelming support for years. The Senate passed them
32-1. But one man — Assembly Speaker Robin Vos — blocked them from even
getting a vote. Minority Leader Greta Neubauer had to announce that she's
pregnant and that her mother has breast cancer to finally force the issue.
That should never have been necessary. It shouldn’t require a statement
from people who already have privilege, like our legislators, to take
action. We shouldn’t have to beg for basic health care while Republicans
go drink cocktails with wealthy donors.
This is what's broken about politics in Wisconsin: Basic, common-sense
improvements get stalled for years while insiders argue – and working
families pay the price.
Wisconsin’s healthcare system isn’t built around patients — it’s built
around profit.
* 50% of Wisconsinites delay or skip healthcare they need because of the
cost.
* Wisconsin has the fifth-highest hospital prices in the country.
* 40% of Wisconsinites have major difficulty paying for the healthcare.
* And our small and rural providers are having trouble making ends meet.
That’s not normal. It’s not acceptable. And it’s not inevitable. I’m
running for governor to fix it — with a plan rooted in a simple idea: you
deserve safety and dignity.
Here’s how we deliver fairer, cheaper healthcare in Wisconsin:
1) Expand and improve BadgerCare
We’ll expand BadgerCare, build the strongest possible public option, and
take care of the people who take care of you.
2) Hold insurers accountable
We’ll crack down on claim denials, mandate coverage for necessary care,
and make it easier to fight back.
3) Reallocate funds to reduce costs
We’ll put an end to price gouging, break up monopolies that close local
clinics, and make hospital systems that get huge tax breaks pay their fair
share.

companies, healthcare corporations and special interests
[ [link removed] ]So I’m asking — can you chip in $10 or $25 today to help us build the
statewide campaign it takes to win and make this plan real?
In healthcare, we’re all in this together. It’s time we govern like it.
