Not only is the polling on our side, the costs are as well. While U.S. Senate races run in the millions, a state legislature race costs, on average, $313,000. That means if every person reading this email donated just $6, we could fund an entire state legislative race.
But, if Republicans keep their gerrymandered maps and other voter suppression tactics, it’s going to get harder and harder to beat them at any level. Last year, congressional Republicans only won 51% of the vote but won 23 out of 36 seats.1 If Democrats have a say in drawing new maps in 2021, we’ll have a better chance of flipping congressional and state legislative seats in the future.
Winning these seats won’t just help Democrats down the road, it will help people in their day-to-day lives. Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the country, especially during the coronavirus pandemic when 659,000 people have lost coverage, and expanding Medicaid would give over 1.5 million Texans access to health care.2
