Friends,

Thanks to everyone who joined us for a very informative meeting with 350.org's Dominique Thomas earlier this month. Dominique also participated in a powerful webinar in early June, immediately after the George Floyd murder, that is worth checking out. Watch the video here.

August General Meeting

Our August 6 general meeting will feature Karen Campblin, co-chair of Green New Deal Virginia and chair of the Political Action Committee of the Fairfax County NAACP. She will talk with us about the environmental justice landscape in Virginia and in particular about the potential for progress on EJ issues in the General Assembly’s upcoming special legislative session.

Community-Wide Energy and Climate Action Plan

We have some big updates to share on the Community-Wide Energy and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) process this month. The CECAP Task Force convened virtually this past Wednesday to set climate goals for the county.

The Task Force agreed to build a plan based on a preliminary goal of net zero emissions across the county by 2050. But before this goal is finalized and plan-building can begin, the county will hold a public comment period for two weeks in August (the exact dates are not yet set).

We need every member of 350 Fairfax to participate in this public comment period. We will be sending several CECAP updates throughout August to ensure you have everything you need to submit an informed comment. Stay tuned!
