1. Prevent delay in implementation of 2025 law restricting dangerous THC products

As you may know, Congress passed a law at the end of last year to restrict the sale of unregulated, intoxicating hemp products (e.g., delta-8) – thanks again to all who helped advocate to make this change a reality! Now, it is critical to ensure that this new law is implemented and enforced.
As a reminder, after Congress legalized hemp in 2018, with the intention of legalizing industrial and non-intoxicating hemp products (e.g., CBD), companies exploited a loophole in that law to create new products from hemp with higher concentrations of THC. These intoxicating hemp-derived products became widespread but have largely been unregulated, allowing them to be designed and sold in ways that appeal and are accessible to kids.
Congress took a crucial step to combat the proliferation of these unregulated, intoxicating products in November when it passed a law banning products synthetically derived from hemp and hemp products with more than a small amount of THC or other intoxicating compounds.

These new restrictions are set to take effect a year from passage, November 2026, allowing time for the industry to adjust and for regulators to prepare for enforcement. However, some have been pushing to delay that implementation timeline, which would only increase the amount of time that unregulated, intoxicating products continue to be widely accessible to youth, increasing opportunities for exposure and harm.
Send a letter to your members of Congress urging them to oppose efforts to delay implementation of the new hemp restrictions and maintain the effective date of the law in order to better protect youth from the negative health outcomes associated with using intoxicating hemp-derived substances.
