Truth is…it’s pretty simple.

John, people ask me all the time what the "special sauce" is to winning three statewide elections in a deep-red state that Trump won by over 30 points.

How do you serve as a Democratic governor in a place where the political math isn't supposed to add up? I talked about this on The Daily Show recently, and the answer isn't complicated. But before I go any further, can I count on you to chip in any amount you can to help me move our work to elect common sense leaders to office forward?

First, you follow your values. You stand up for your convictions, and you stand up for the values of the people you represent. You focus on the issues that matter most in their daily lives — good jobs, strong public schools, safe communities, and affordable healthcare. When you keep your attention there, you can actually move your state forward.

Second, Democrats need to get back to talking like normal people. We don't need more buzzwords. We don't need to spin someone's crisis into a phrase that sounds clever in Washington. We need to meet people where they are, listen to what they're going through, and speak plainly about what we're going to do to help. No one wants to feel talked down to, and no one wants to feel like a political talking point.

And third, we have to talk more about our "why." Democrats are good at explaining the policies they support. But we need to work on explaining why we are fighting for this policy. Why does this decision matter? Why will it make your life better? Leadership isn't about the spotlight. It isn't about building power for yourself. It's about keeping your focus where it belongs — on the people you serve. Always.

That's the kind of leadership we're working to build across the country through In This Together PAC. Leaders who stay grounded in their communities, speak plainly, and always remember that public service is about improving lives, not winning arguments.

The truth is: There's really no secret formula, just integrity, compassion, and dedication to doing the job you were hired to do as a public servant.

That's it.

If you want to help elect more leaders like that, chip in today. Your support helps us recruit, organize, and win in places where people are ready for steady, values-driven leadership.
