Dear John,

Act now: Tell your Member of Congress to stop this attack on our health and safety -- uphold the Magna Carta of Environmental law!

A few days ago, the Council on Environmental Quality finalized its rollback of the National Environmental Policy Act.

NEPA is a critical protection for our health and environment -- it’s often called the “Magna Carta of environmental law.” It requires the government to weigh environmental and community concerns before approving pipelines, highways, drilling permits, and new factories on federal lands.

This rollback could expose more communities to toxic air pollution as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to threaten the health of Americans. The only benefits would go to corporate polluters. We need your help to push Congress to protect this bedrock environmental law!

Demand your Representative stop the rollback of the Magna Carta of environmental law!

NEPA allows communities on the front lines of polluting projects to make their voices heard -- helping stop pollution in their own backyards. The CEQ’s rollback of these protections will sideline these voices while allowing Big Polluters to cut corners.

The CEQ’s changes to NEPA strip requirements to disclose conflicts of interest, consider environmental impacts, or offer alternative approaches. They give fossil fuel corporations the reins to speed up pollution as they see fit.

Black and Brown communities already face disproportionate exposure to toxic pollution. Children in these communities have higher rates of asthma, low birthweight, and neurodevelopmental disorders. The NEPA rollback will only exacerbate these disparities.

During a pandemic where public health is already at a crisis level, and Black and Brown communities struggle to find appropriate health care, the safety of all Americans -- not polluter profits -- should be at the forefront. Your Representative can push back on the CEQ’s rollbacks of NEPA. But they’ll only act if they hear from constituents like you.

Tell your Representative: Stop the CEQ from gutting one of our bedrock environmental laws.

Standing with you,
Ariel Moger,
Legislative and political coordinator,
