Shielding Arrangements Paused

A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:

Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council

From today the Government?s shielding arrangements are being paused making it even more important we continue to look out for friends, family and neighbours to keep each other safe and ensure the infection rate remains low in Nottingham. It has been brilliant to see an army of volunteers and council staff help our 18,000 Nottingham people who have been shielding over recent months. Together they have helped call on thousands of people across the city to check people are ok and have also helped deliver 2,000 free emergency food parcels, as well as help with shopping, prescriptions and family emergencies. As the latest rules come into effect it is important to know that if you still need help, you can call the council on 0115 915 5555. We can put you in touch with the community groups, volunteers and food banks offering support in your neighbourhoods.

Happy Eid

Eid Mubarak image

I would like to wish everybody celebrating Eid today a very blessed holiday weekend. The sun has come out to shine on us today and I know that people will be joining family and friends for Eid prayers and celebrations. I want to thank members of Nottingham's Muslim communities who, like the vast majority of Nottingham people, have been so attentive to the government's safety guidance. I am pleased that places of worship are beginning to reopen with safety measures in place, but I am sorry that?large gatherings are still not possible, and I understand how disappointing this is. Thank you to all of the individuals, households and communities who continue to follow the guidance on this special weekend. Like you, I am looking forward to the time when we can reunite, greet each other and be together again.

Through Traffic Changes to Victoria Embankment

From Monday the Victoria Embankment will be closed to through traffic on a trial basis, as part of the Emergency Active Travel Fund. This fund is to help councils introduce measures to re-allocate road space, address speeding and encourage people to walk and cycle more. The Embankment is an important recreational space, popular with walkers, cyclists and families and of course home to our very special War Memorials. But a large number of drivers use the Embankment purely as a cut-through route. This closure will be for a trial period over the summer and we look forward to seeing more children, families, Meadows residents and those local to the area making use of the safer space over the summer holidays.
