Hi John,

I was in touch with you last week to see if you could tell your MP to sign an open letter calling for a ban on industrial supertrawlers in UK Marine Protected Areas. Since then, supporters across the country have managed to get their MPs onboard.

Can you help make our message stronger and ask your MP to sign the open letter and help properly protect our vulnerable marine life?

Marine Protected Areas are supposed to be protecting vulnerable marine habitats and iconic species like porpoises and dolphins. But allowing supertrawlers to fish in them completely undermines this.

Supertrawlers are huge fishing vessels - with nets up to a mile long, catching hundreds of tonnes of fish every day. [1] For a government that claims to be a world leader in ocean protection it should be clear these ships do not belong in areas meant to protect vulnerable marine life. [2]

But it's clear to the public - a recent poll shows people across the political spectrum think supertrawlers should be banned from UK Marine Protected Areas. [3]

Can you ask your MP to join scientists, NGOs and people across the country who are calling on the government to ban supertrawlers from the UK's Marine Protected Areas?

The government is failing our fragile marine life and ecosystems by allowing destructive supertrawlers to fish in our protected waters. Make sure they they do their duty - and protect our oceans.

Thank you for everything you do,

Anthony and the oceans team
