Friend — at the beginning of July, a donor announced that they would put up a $500,000 contribution to help fund our pro-environmental campaigns through the rest of 2020. The catch:
it only kicks in if 10,000 LCV members also pitch in before the end of the month.
The problem: that deadline is just a few hours away — and we're still 189 donations short.
We still have a shot at getting there — but we need your help, today. The thing is, small donations count the same as big ones towards reaching this goal. A single $5 donation could make the difference between funding our biggest environmental campaigns this year, or totally scaling back — at a time when we need to be ramping our efforts like never before
We can't afford to come up short here — especially not now. This is the most critical month of the year, because it is likely Trump's last chance to jam through his most damaging policies before election season is in full swing, and he is getting desperate.
In just the last week, the Trump administration threatened a veto on a must-pass bill to fund the EPA and Interior Department and finalized a rule gutting the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), making it so that agencies would no longer have to consider climate change when approving pipelines and other major infrastructure proposals.
The best thing you can do right now is to renew your membership. It only costs $5 »
I want you to know: there's a real shot at stopping Trump's attack on the EPA and his rollback on NEPA. These are fights we can win, but it's not all we're up against right now. Your support matters SO, so much — here are a few more reasons why:
- Since the beginning of the pandemic, Trump has rolled back EPA safety and enforcement measures regarding the release of mercury and other toxic pollutants into the air and groundwater. Those rollbacks are tentatively set to expire in August, but Trump is pushing hard to make them permanent. This bill blocks his inadequate soot standards and effort to undermine mercury standards for power plants and increases funding for the EPA. Make a gift to LCV today to help us force the EPA to do its job »
- The Trump administration recently announced plans to open up 82% of an Alaska reserve — 18.7 million acres — for oil and gas leasing, which would more than double the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses estimated to be released as a result of drilling in the next 20 years. This bill blocks drilling anywhere in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, or in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska. The environmental movement needs to put up a huge fight to ensure these protections stand in the final bill. Donate today »
- Recently, Trump also signaled that he and the Department of the Interior are planning on opening up the Gulf of Mexico to oil drilling after the November election — despite bipartisan opposition on many fronts. In what could be the final months of this presidency, we have to stop Trump from setting policies in place that can't be undone. Make a $5 donation to renew your membership today »
- Meanwhile, Congress is preparing to pass another coronavirus relief bill — and Trump is still trying to find ways to get bailout funds earmarked for the oil and gas industry. We stopped him the first time — and we can stop him again, but not without your help House Democrats successfully shut them down. Pitch in today and block his efforts once and for all »
I can't stress this enough: that $500,000 grant would be a game changer, and it would hugely improve our chances at winning these crucial fights.
We cannot afford to miss out on this goal — there is too much at stake.
The deadline is just hours away, and we are still 189 donations short — please, friend, now's your chance:

I can't thank you enough for standing with us during this historic time. We can do this, friend, as long as we do it together.
Let's do this.
