New Times Call For New Apps—Not Updates.

Coronavirus. Civil rights protests. One of the most contentious presidential elections in American history. Unprecedented times call for unprecedented responses. Not design tweaks. Not rebranding. Not updated versions of an existing app. Times like these call for something new entirely.

Introducing: Causes.

We needed to respond to the new world in a new way. The same old Countable wasn't sufficient. You, our users, Democracy, deserve more than Countable could offer. Causes is the next step in our mission to disrupt “normal” political culture and get people thinking again. To move politics beyond politics.

Soon, when you visit Countable.us or tap on our app, you’ll be automatically redirected to a different website: Causes.com. What changes will you notice? Not many, at first. A new logo. A cleaner interface. A more-inclusive mission.

What won’t change is our fundamental mission: to bring the government to you and bring your voice to the government.

But the government is no longer relegated to D.C. and state capitals. Corporations often affect change faster than Congress—banning guns, mandating masks, denying service based on religious beliefs. And it doesn’t matter which state - or country - you live in: you can tell businesses how to “vote” if they want your currency. Ads target you—it’s time for you to target advertisers.

And target governors that pass abortion - or anti-abortion - legislation.

And target tourism boards in states that ban - or embrace - transgender bathrooms.

And target sports franchises that change their names - or not - as they grapple with America’s racist history.

And target foreign heads-of-state as you join in a digital march with the demonstrators on the streets of Hong Kong or lock arms with the NBA silencing players from broadcasting their political opinion on China.

Causes will, eventually, allow you to do all of this. And, we hope, much more.

We listened to you. We listened to your coughs and your cries and your comments and your protests. It is no longer about just being counted. It is about committing yourself to something bigger than yourself—a Cause.
