One of my earliest memories is my father taking my sister and me to work
with him on his paper route for The Washington Post.

It was only a few years after two Post reporters exposed Watergate. At
that time, it was the pinnacle of American journalism.

The Washington Post endorsed me twice during my Senate campaign, both
during the primary and the general election. It was an immense honor to
receive their support.

All my life, the Post has been there, a reliable voice for truth and
accountability from those in power.

But now, that's all at risk. The Washington Post is the latest casualty in
the far-right war on the free press. Billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Elon
Musk, and Rupert Murdoch are trying to control the news we read and the
information we see online.

The free press is the only reason we know about vital stories like the
Epstein files, RFK Jr. 's measles epidemic, and ICE terror on our streets.
We must not let Donald Trump and his cohort of billionaires extinguish the
light of truth in America.

As the Washington Post’s slogan says, “Democracy dies in darkness.”

So don’t stop seeking out good journalism. Read local papers. Check your
facts. Share important stories online. Don’t let them bury the truth and
silence the truth-tellers.

Truth is power. Let’s amplify it together.
