Happy Presidents Day, John!
Today we celebrate those who have served in the highest office and the leadership, judgment, and care that the very best presidents brought to the job.

We remember past presidents not just for what they achieved, but for how they led when it mattered most. And while different eras called for different styles, the strongest presidents were guided by the same core principles: responsibility, service, and respect for the office.
Those principles are easiest to see in the moments that defined them and shaped our country.
Moments like when George Washington refused to run for a third term, setting a precedent that guided the presidency until the Twenty-Second Amendment.
Moments like when Abraham Lincoln , in the middle of the Civil War, stood at Gettysburg and reminded the nation what our democracy is meant to be.
And moments decades later, during the Great Depression, when Franklin D Roosevelt met fear head-on and addressed what it would take to rebuild, recover, and move forward.
That’s a standard worth celebrating and a helpful reminder of what the office can and should be. And what it should never be: a stage for ego, revenge, and chaos, or a place where the rule of law is treated like a suggestion and the country is asked to pay the price.
