Namaste, Tashi Delek, and Hello!

It’s an exciting week for us. We are celebrating our 15th birthday AND our powerhouse leader and Executive Director, Pabitra Khati Benjamin has been named by City & State NY among the “2020 Power of Diversity: Asian 100.”
This list recognizes Asian American leaders in politics and policy doing exceptional work to advocate and support their community amidst these unprecedented times.
This accomplishment is not just for Pabitra’s leadership, it is a testament to our organization’s staff and most importantly our members and supporters who have made Adhikaar into the thriving organization it is today. Please consider donating to us today to support our efforts as well as our 15th birthday.

This week, we are taking a stroll down memory lane on our social media platforms to highlight some of our biggest milestones from over the years, from our inception in 2005 until now.

In 2005, we originally operated out of donated space in Staten Island run entirely by volunteers, who began teaching English to nail salon and domestic worker members.

Adhikaar’s foundation was built on our English for Empowerment (EFE) program, which still is at the heart of our organization’s base-building and political education work. By 2007, Adhikaar was able to establish the first active community center for the Nepali-speaking community in Woodside.
Just three years later, we published the first-ever survey and needs assessment of the Nepali-speaking community called the Jankari research project.
It paved the way for Adhikaar’s programming for worker's rights while laying the foundation for our advocacy efforts for the Nepali-speaking community in New York and across the nation.

Over the next week and a half, we will be celebrating our 15th year with more posts on social media about our history and accomplishments along the way - make sure to follow #adhikaar15 on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to read, learn more, and share.
