This Fourth of July weekend was HUGE!

Julián kicked off the weekend with a day-long trip to Northern Nevada, making him the first 2020 presidential candidate to visit West Wendover and Elko. On Saturday morning, he visited West Wendover’s city hall where he hosted a roundtable with local healthcare stakeholders, followed by a meet-and-greet with West Wendover community members.

Shortly after, West Wendover Mayor Daniel Corona announced his endorsement of Julián with a video posted on Twitter. In his remarks, he recalled Julián’s speech at the 2012 DNC convention and named it the inspiration for his own political career.

“He showed me that kids who grow up in communities like ours or families like ours can aspire to be anything they want whether it be the Mayor of San Antonio or the President of the United States.”

The trip continued with a walk in the National Elko Basque Festival Parade, where he was greeted by many excited supporters as he made his way through Elko’s remarkable downtown.

Later, Julián made a stop at a meet-and-greet in Reno, NV, where he spoke on key topics like immigration, education and housing. The room was filled with attendees that were eager to learn how he would represent their community in this election. By the end, they were left feeling confident in his bold leadership.

On Sunday, excitement was in the air as Julián made trips to neighboring cities Omaha, NE and Council Bluffs, IA. The wave of support from Julián’s debate performance seems to have made its way to the Midwest as meet-and-greets were attended by over 200 local residents.

While in Iowa, Julián was endorsed by this amazing group of local activists and community leaders:

  • Rob Barron, Des Moines School Board member and Founder of Latino Political Network
  • Bonnie Brown, Community Leader and SCC Member
  • Sally (Araceli) Goode, Community Leader and Activist
  • Joe Henry, Longtime Leader and Activist in Latino Community
  • Jose Ibarra, Storm Lake Councilman
  • Steve Villatoro, Community Leader and Vice Chair of Latino Caucus

One of the greatest moments of the weekend was seeing all of the campaigns together celebrating Independence Day in Iowa.

And just when we thought the excitement had reached its peak, you surprised us! Our campaign now has 130,000 unique donors, one of the requirements for participation in the fall Democratic debates.

Thank you for your continued support!

No one like Julián Castro has ever been in the Oval Office. His grandmother immigrated here from Mexico when she was just 7 years old. She never got past the 4th grade, but she provided for her family by working as a maid and a housekeeper.

Now, her grandson is running for President of the United States. Against all odds, grassroots Democrats like YOU helped him qualify for the Democratic debates and sent him to the front of the pack of Democratic candidates.

We know we send you a lot of emails, but that’s because we’re relying on grassroots supporters to overcome our next big challenge:

Julián must be able to compete and build a movement that lasts for the long haul, and he’s not taking a cent of corporate PAC money to do it. Will you be a part of this historic campaign?
