Friend,
During this unprecedented time, we understand that you have a lot on your plate. However, with just ten years to enact real change, the urgency of our climate crisis remains pertinent.
We are currently witnessing one of the largest extinction events in the history of our planet, with 14% of birds, 25% of mammals and 40% of amphibians already on the path to extinctions. California is a global biodiversity hotspot, so we as a state have much more to lose. In order to preserve California’s biodiversity, increase our resilience to the impacts of climate change, and enhance access to nature for all people California must pass AB 3030 which will commit us to statewide goal of protecting at least 30% of land, waters, and oceans by 2030 (30 by 30).
AB 3030 is a science-backed goal that will not only safeguard biodiversity, but will conserve natural spaces for future generations.
The scientific community across the world is calling on the global leaders to commit to conserving more of Earth’s lands, waters, and oceans in order to combat climate change, protect clean water, increase nature’s abilities to buffer communities from climate change fueled natural disasters, protect biodiversity, and protect our food system, all of which have a direct impact on human health. As a global leader in climate action, California must adopt this important conservation target. Passing AB 3030 this year will set us on a path to conserving 30% of land and 30% of oceans by 2030.
We need you to urge your Senator to vote YES on AB 3030 to conserve California’s natural spaces, protect biodiversity and ensure access to nature for future generations!
We appreciate your role in the fight for our planet. We wouldn’t be able to do this without you.
In solidarity,
Melissa Romero
