 Dear John, This morning, Sunrisers in DC pulled off yet another Wide Awake action at Mitch McConnell’s house. We’ve tried writing letters, signing petitions, visiting offices. Politicians like Mitch just won’t listen. So, we are done asking nicely. No justice, no sleep. In our group call last night, 400 people joined to discuss planning consistent, sustained action through election day and beyond. For the next few months, we’ll hit the streets and make sure politicians complicit in this death economy are WIDE AWAKE. Over 100 leaders stepped up and committed to organizing an event near them. That means we can already expect thousands of people to take action across the nation. So many of our government officials, like McConnell, are complicit in ruining lives. They aren’t fighting for protection and fair pay for the essential workers at the front lines of this pandemic. They aren’t fighting to keep people in their homes and keep utilities on as millions struggle to pay rent with tiny unemployment checks that no one can survive on. They aren’t taking the destruction of Indigenous lands and the pollution of communities of color seriously. They aren’t holding cops accountable for murder. They are asleep at the wheel. Together we will shine a bright, uncomfortable spotlight on the so-called “leaders” who are failing us.
