living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, knows what it’s like to

Simire is a farmer. It’s good work, but it’s hard, and it doesn’t always
provide what she needs to feed herself and her 11-month-old son, Shokan.
"If we don’t grow, we will sleep without eating," she says. But there is

well-being of her baby is at risk.

training program so that when harvests are poor she can still support her

Shokan. She straps him comfortably to her back to keep her hands free as

that when the harvest is poor, her tailoring skills will ensure she and
her son won’t go hungry.
