John, Every day, we are watching our democratic norms challenged under the Trump administration. From the early days of his candidacy, Trump has routinely ignored our country’s laws, institutions, and values, and he has even questioned the legitimacy of election results. This morning, Trump proposed the unthinkable: delay the 2020 election until he deems it “safe.” The Constitution does not grant the president authority to change election dates. Only Congress has that power, and they have never used it. But that doesn’t mean Trump won’t do everything he can to pressure allies across the country to do his bidding. |

The answer is clear: we need to prepare for a scenario in which Trump refuses to accept the results of November’s election -- as we continue to do all we can now to fight to ensure the election will be safe and secure. That’s why Free Speech For People is joining Indivisible and Stand Up America in Protect the Results: a joint project that will provide the infrastructure for mobilizing Americans should that nightmare scenario come to pass. We need you with us, John. I PLEDGE TO PROTECT THE RESULTS We need our movement ready to mobilize safely if Trump attempts to corrupt this election, especially given the added threat that the COVID-19 pandemic poses to traditional in-person voting this year. Trump has already denounced mail-in voting as fraudulent and recently refused to say whether he would accept an electoral loss in November. His recent willingness to use force against civilians peacefully exercising their First Amendment right to protest demonstrates there’s no line he won’t cross. It’s more important than ever that we protect the valid results of the election. We’ve held elections during the Civil War, World War I, World War II, and the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, and we will not allow Trump to deny us our right to vote on November 3rd. The results of this election will determine the future of our country, and the election must be respected as well as protected. In solidarity, Free Speech For People
