Jewish Americans and politics

Last week, President Trump stirred controversy by saying that Jewish people who vote Democratic are “being very disloyal to Jewish people and very disloyal to Israel.” Pew Research Center surveys have found that Jewish registered voters have long been more likely to affiliate with and lean toward the Democratic Party than the GOP, with little change over the last two decades. Most recently, nearly eight-in-ten Jewish voters nationally (79%) cast ballots for Democratic candidates for the House of Representatives in 2018, according to exit polls. And 32 out of the 34 Jewish members of the current Congress are Democrats. Additionally, U.S. Jews are more likely than Christians to say Trump favors the Israelis too much in their conflict with the Palestinians.
