These hens miraculously survived a four-alarm fire at a factory egg farm.

Dear John,

Last week, a massive fire engulfed a factory egg farm in New Jersey and claimed the lives of nearly 300,000 hens trapped inside. But by some miracle and the dedication of local activists, 230 of the terrified birds found a way out of the flame-filled building.

Forty of these brave survivors were brought to Farm Sanctuary for loving care and a lifelong home. Please help.

Hens from rescue

Despite burns on their combs and wattles, these resilient survivors are now in stable condition, and we are keeping a close watch on them as they continue to heal.

One of these girls—Rosalinda—has a large bald spot on her head where a piece of plastic melted to her flesh. We are caring for this burn and providing medication to ease any pain as she heals.

My heart breaks when I think of what Rosalinda has been through. And yet, I know that despite the horror she and these hens endured, that four-alarm fire might be considered the best thing that ever happened to them ... because they found Farm Sanctuary and supporters like you.

Please rush an emergency gift today to help us care for Rosalinda and the rest of her friends and continue all our lifesaving work for farm animals.

Hen from rescue

On factory egg farms like the one from which these hens escaped, hundreds of thousands of hens are kept in crowded conditions. It is unlikely that any of these hens had ever even seen the outdoors or breathed fresh air before they emerged from the flames last week.

Now at Farm Sanctuary, despite their painful burns and the emotional trauma they have endured, they are eager to begin living the life they’ve been denied.

Several of the birds have already been stepping outside to scratch in the dirt and stretch their wings. Their strength gives us hope for their survival, but we are still monitoring them closely—watching for secondary infections from their burns and for signs of smoke inhalation damage.

We are taking it day by day and could really use your support.

Please help Farm Sanctuary during this emergency rescue situation.

These brave hens have been through so much. Your gift will help nurse them back to health as we continue to care for the nearly 1,000 animals we already have at our sanctuaries. We cannot do it without friends like you.

The fact that these birds were able to survive a catastrophic fire that claimed the lives of 300,000 of their flock mates is nothing short of a miracle.

Please donate now to help Farm Sanctuary care for these survivors and ensure that we can continue to be a rescuer and caregiver for farm animals in need.

We can’t bring back the nearly 300,000 hens who spent their lives in that awful factory farm before meeting a horrifying end in last week’s fire. But the 40 birds who are now safe at Farm Sanctuary still have a chance. If you can help, please do so now.

With tremendous gratitude,
