What we're seeing right now from the Department of Homeland Security and ICE should concern every American who believes in the rule of law.

Across the country, ICE agents are operating without basic safeguards that are supposed to protect both the public and law enforcement officers themselves.

They are operating with no legal warrants, no accountability, and harmful tactics that create fear in our communities at the cost of American lives.

As a former state attorney general, I can't look at this and stay quiet. Law enforcement has immense power — and with that power comes responsibility. Officers must be trained, supervised, and held accountable to clear legal standards. That's not optional, it's the foundation of public trust.

But right now, that foundation is cracking. The way ICE agents have behaved in Minneapolis and elsewhere doesn’t meet the standards for how any law enforcement agency should conduct itself. The result? There is now a body count of American citizens because of ICE’s actions in Minnesota.

That's why I'm calling for immediate action, John.

Every ICE agent in every city across the U.S. needs to be withdrawn, so agents can be re-trained and directed to act within the law, follow proper procedures, and prioritize safety and de-escalation. And we need real accountability at the top — that means leadership that makes it clear that no one is above the law, including people working for the federal government.
