For over a week, the world has been responding like never before to cries to defend the Amazon and indigenous rights and territories in the wake of the unprecedented fires that have raged across the region. This is not only a grave threat to our climate, but also to the biodiversity and health of the rainforest and the many indigenous peoples who call it home. NOW is the moment to focus even more action on the Amazon.
In coalition with many environmental, human rights, and indigenous rights organizations, we have agreed to focus our efforts on applying massive international pressure on Brazil and the Bolsonaro regime to change its dangerous rhetoric and destructive policies.
Indigenous peoples of the Amazon are calling on people around the world to take to the streets: peacefully organize, demonstrate, and march to preserve and protect the Amazon rainforest and our planet. As global citizens, it’s up to all of us to take shared responsibility for our planet’s preservation by standing up to corporate greed and political corruption that seeks to profit from the destruction of our planet.
To promote the action and continue to raise awareness, Amazon Watch released a new video today with powerful images of the current fires and images of demonstrations that have already begun to take place.
Watch it here, share it with your networks, and TAKE ACTION on September 5th!
