PPI President Will Marshall moderated an hour-long conversation with Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-3), Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52), and Ben Ritz of PPI's Center for Funding America's Future. Topics of discussion included the fiscal health of the United States, priorities for the upcoming stimulus bill, the election, and their perspectives on how America's economy can return with a resilient recovery.
"Right now we have to make sure we are taking care of people’s health and safety, and set ourselves up for success when times get good again. Because they will, and we will be on the other side of this at some point,” said Congresswoman Sharice Davids, a freshman member from Kansas.
"This is an intergenerational problem. It's on us to fix this before we go, so our kids don't have to suffer. We should not leave them a country that's in worse shape than how we got it," said Congressman Scott Peters.
Ben Ritz, the Director of PPI's Center for Funding America's Future, said he "would encourage [Vice President Biden] to look at concepts like the fiscal switch, automatic stabilizers, and the TRUST Act that will make sure we're providing the economic support our economy needs in the short-term but also begin to phase in those long-term reforms that will get out structural deficit under control." Ritz said these mechanisms would help Biden "pay for the promises he has made in the campaign without putting an undue burden on future generations."
