A couple of weeks ago, I commented on a friend’s social post. In my comment, I made reference to being a Christian who believes the Bible is true. It took only a few minutes for someone else to comment: “the [sic] Bible was written three HUNDRED years after Jesus died. THINK ABOUT IT.” Um, OK. First of all, not true. Second, in one statement, the commenter tried to summarily dismiss not only my comment, but my opinion and even my personal experience of Christianity. Welcome to the shadows of cancel culture. If you’ve had someone respond to your opinions with a rash comment followed by THINK ABOUT IT, EDUCATE YOURSELF or some other all-caps, shouting, condescending or dismissive statement, you’re being canceled. (Or you’re just being dissed; the line is a fine one.) Why are we doing this? What are we afraid of? How as Christians can we be different? Listen to this week’s show to find out. |
