On Monday, the Seattle City Council will vote to re-balance the 2020 budget and defund the Seattle Police Department by 50%. Seven out of nine City Councilmembers have already pledged to defund SPD by 50%, but Mayor Durkan, the police, and capitalist media have been pushing back hard. We only have a few days left to keep up the pressure and make sure they keep their word—so let’s hit the streets!
Community and youth organizers, including Decriminalize Seattle & King County Equity Now, have organized two important rallies to keep up the pressure on City Council to defund SPD by 50% and reinvest those funds in community-led health and safety services and anti-racist education.
This Friday Aug. 31st, 12 - 3:30 pm
Rainier Beach Community Center Plaza (Rainier & Henderson)
Sponsored by: King County Equity Now and Decriminalize Seattle
Endorsed by: NAACP Youth Council, Seattle Equity Educators, WeAPP, Seattle Democratic Socialists of America, National Educators United, Equity in Education Coalition.
This rally will roll out ten youth-led solutions for equitable education.
This Monday, Aug. 3rd, 12 - 4 pm
Presented by Decriminalize Seattle and King County Equity Now
Rally at the Youth Jail (12th & Alder) and march to City Hall on the day of the vote!
