FDA finds 'forever chemicals' intentionally added to cosmetics

A new FDA report has found that hundreds of personal care products sold in the U.S. contain intentionally added “forever chemicals.”
These chemicals, known as PFAS, are often called “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down and build up in the body and the environment.
We’re shaping our strategy in response to this alarming discovery – and we need your opinion. Will you take a short survey to offer your input?

According to the FDA report:
*Nearly 1,700 cosmetics contain forever chemicals
* They’re most common in eye makeup, face cream, foundation and powder
* One type of PFAS appears in nearly 1 in 3 products that contain them
And here’s the part that should concern anyone who uses these products:
Cosmetics – unlike food and drugs – generally do not have to be safety tested before being sold.
That means chemicals applied directly to your eyelids, lips and skin can reach store shelves with little or no publicly available safety data.
Some studies have linked certain forever chemicals to serious health concerns – but the FDA itself says there’s limited safety information for many of the ones used in cosmetics today.
EWG believes people deserve clear information and safer products – not guesswork.
