Dear John,

Parents Against Vaping is proud to present the first Clear the Vapor Conversations event of 2026:

Behind the Buzz: Helping Kids Navigate Nicotine, Stress, and Mental Health with Dr. Jonathan Avery
🗓️ Tuesday, February 24
🕕 6:00 PM ET | 📍Zoom
FREE!

Register now for a timely, solutions-focused conversation exploring how nicotine use can affect youth mental health, increase anxiety, and accelerate addiction — and, importantly, how parents can respond in ways that build trust, motivation, and resilience. As nicotine products evolve and become more discreet, the mental and emotional impacts on kids and teens are often overlooked, leaving many parents unsure where to start.

Join Parents Against Vaping and Dr. Jonathan Avery, Vice Chair of Addiction Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, for an evidence-based discussion on the intersection of nicotine, youth mental health, and practical strategies parents can use to support their children — without judgment, fear, or blame.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Understand the connection between nicotine use, addiction, stress, and youth mental health

  • Recognize early warning signs related to anxiety, mood changes, and dependence

  • Talk with kids about nicotine and mental well-being in ways that keep communication open and supportive

  • Help foster motivation and readiness to quit by addressing stress, social pressures, and underlying needs

  • Take realistic, actionable steps to protect and advocate for your family and community

🌟 Submit your questions when you register — there will be a live moderated Q&A.
🎥 All registrants will receive access to the recording.

Nicotine products may change, but our mission remains the same: protecting kids from addiction and supporting parents with trusted, science-based information.

Jonathan Avery, M.D. is the Vice Chair for Addiction Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College as well as the Stephen P. Tobin and Dr. Arnold M. Cooper Associate Professor in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and the Program Director for the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship. Dr. Avery’s primary academic focus has been to examine and help develop interventions to improve clinicians’ attitudes towards patients with substance use disorders. He is also focused on educating all physicians on how to treat individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental illness.

Clear the Vapor Conversations convenes researchers, public health advocates, and leading experts throughout the year for informative discussions on emerging nicotine trends. Topics have included environmental harms caused by vaping, how schools and communities can take action, and ways to engage youth in quitting. Each event features a moderated discussion with your questions answered live.
