Rumours of a Spring election are heating up again.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friend,

There is no denying that a long line of political leaders, premiers and prime ministers, have cynically grabbed the moment they are way ahead in the polls to turn a minority government into a majority. It is a cynical ploy, but, in many ways, tried and true.

I always had a nagging suspicion when the budget passed in November 2025 that some backroom Liberal strategists wanted it to fail. A snap election over the holidays would have gotten them to majority. Now two months past that moment, the rumour mill is heating up.

Weirdly, it is widely rumoured that Ontario's Conservative premier Doug Ford is advising Liberal PM Mark Carney to call a spring election.

In many ways, Carney's poll numbers have nowhere to go but down. He is riding high while Poilievre sinks and the NDP are leaderless and broke.

As Green leader, I am so happy that we are debt-free. We are in a good position to be able to raise the money we need for spring by-elections - with at least two likely in March.

But we are nowhere near ready for a full national federal election in spring.

It is only February 11 and I am worried.

I would be so very grateful if you could donate today to build up our election funds for 2026.

We are working hard to be ready. We are nominating candidates. And we are preparing the ground from coast to coast. Now would be a great time to start rebuilding our campaign funds. Some parties call it their "war chest." I call it our "hope chest." And it is filled with hope! But it is pretty empty when it comes to funds to run a full campaign as early as this spring.

For the good of Canada's democracy, we cannot let the two dominant parties become Canada's only national parties. Canada has never been a two party system, but there is nothing the Conservatives and Liberals would like more, hence Conservative Doug Ford whispering in Liberal Mark Carney's ear, "snap election."

Please help us hold the bigger parties to account by electing more Greens. Please donate what you can in February!

P.S. Many supporters choose monthly giving as a way to provide steady, reliable support, especially during uncertain political moments. In 2026, the Elections Canada contribution limit is $1,775, or $148 per month. Monthly gifts help ensure we’re ready, no matter what comes next. [Make a monthly donation today!]([link removed])
