Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence

Dear John —

As educators and parents, we spend so much time worrying about the “big” headlines that we sometimes overlook the simple, everyday actions that can save a child’s life.

With a new season of playdates and after-school hangouts upon us, one of the most vital conversations we can have has nothing to do with preferred snacks. It’s the Playdate Protocol: asking other parents if they have firearms, and if so, how they store them.

We know it can feel awkward. We know there’s a fear of sounding judgmental or “political.” But at Teachers Unify, we believe that asking about safe storage should be as normal as asking about a peanut allergy.

Asking “Is there an unlocked gun in your home?” isn't about starting a debate — it’s about protecting children. It’s about ensuring that the curiosity of a child doesn’t turn into a tragedy. When we normalize this question, we take the power away from the “what-ifs” and put it back into the hands of our community.

Teachers Unify is committed to providing the resources and information parents and educators need to lead these difficult conversations with confidence. We are building a movement where safety is the standard and no one feels isolated for putting a child’s life over the awkward conversations.

If you believe in our mission to bring common-sense safety protocols into every neighborhood, will you consider a small gift of $10 or $20 today?

Together, we can make the "hard questions" feel like second nature. Thank you for being a part of the sanctuary we are building.

In solidarity,
